Thanks to the work of area students, our local Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario has received over $10,000 in grants awarded by Genworth Canada.
This comes as a result of Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario’s “Meaning of Home” national writing contest where students were able to submit a poem or essay about “what homes means to them” for a chance to win a grant that would go towards a local build.
Thanks to grade 6 student Emily Phillips from Kensal Park French Immersion in London, who was a runner up in the contest, $10,000 was awarded to Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario.
CEO of Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario Brian Elliot says Emily’s grant will go towards a local St. Thomas build that is set to take place in the fall.
myFM also spoke with Emily who says that she is glad to know where the grant is going and is excited to see the good it can do for a local family.
In addition to Emily’s donation each of the 50 submissions that they received locally earned a $10 donation, resulting in $500 total. To learn more or to read Emily’s winning entry, you can click here.
