Plenty of excitement in a north St. Thomas neighbourhood this morning. Just before 9, the city’s fire department received several 9-1-1 calls for a vehicle that hit a home at 9 Pine Valley Drive. It struck the home’s gas meter resulting in a natural gas leak.
The male driver was extricated by firefighters and taken to hospital.
The neighbourhood at the north end of Pine Valley Dr. was evacuated for several hours until the gas leak was shut off and the home safely ventilated. City building officials were called in to determine the extent of the damage to the home. While surprised, the residents were uninjured.
