Noting the province’s heritage, sport, tourism and culture industries were hit first, the hardest and will take longest to recover from COVID-19, St. Thomas and Elgin will benefit from various grants.
The announcement was made yesterday afternoon at the Elgin County Heritage Centre by Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture.
Set to benefit from the announcement is the Elgin County Museum.
The YMCA of St. Thomas Elgin will received $218,000 for programs to support at-risk and homeless youth and Mennonite Community Services in Aylmer is to receive $38,000. And the Optimist Club of West Lorne will get $150,000 to build an accessible playground.
McLeod noted these four sectors contribute more than $75 billion to the provincial economy.
