The free ride on city buses will remain in place for just a little longer. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, St. Thomas Transit buses, which have no rear door for entry and exit, have run with no fare collection. At a special meeting of council last night, city manager Wendell Graves explained fares will again be collected beginning July 13.
Earlier this week, Mayor Joe Preston advised there may be more good news on the horizon for the transit system with regard to federal funding.
