After temporarily suspending community RIDE checks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aylmer Police Service will once again resume the checks to enforce impaired driving by alcohol and drugs.
The resumption of the RIDE checks come at a good time as police report that between January 1st and June 30th of this year, Aylmer police have apprehended and charged 16 persons with Impaired Driving, compared to last year where 4 persons were charged.
Police state that this is a significant spike in impaired driving mainly due to officer’s dedication to road safety based on their strategic plan.
Police Chief Horvat says that motorists are reminded that the best way to avoid being a statistic is to take responsible actions against drinking and driving by arranging for a ride or plan to stay over if attending a social function.
