Moving forward on the steps needed to declare the vacant Trinity Anglican Church a heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act was put on hold at Monday’s city council meeting. Members voted 8-1 to defer a motion to direct city administrators to begin with the notice of intent process. Coun. Mark Tinlin stressed there is not a high demand on the market for old churches, especially one with a heritage designation.
Coun. Steve Peters was the lone member opposed to deferral.
The structure on Southwick Street is currently owned by the Anglican diocese, and according to the city’s Municipal Heritage Committee it is in relatively good condition.
