As has been expected, the wearing of face masks is now mandatory in all enclosed public spaces in St. Thomas and Elgin county.
There will be a one-week grace period to allow businesses time to prepare but policies must be in place by 12:01 a.m. on August 6.
Dr. Joyce Lock, medical officer of health for Southwestern Public Health said the move was made in consultation with area municipalities.
Dr. Lock stresses face masks must be worn properly to provide maximum protection.
The policy covers all commercial establishments, public transit, and commercial service vehicles. Dr. Lock advises there are exemptions for children under two or children under five if they cannot be persuaded to wear one by a caregiver and individuals with health conditions that make it difficult to wear one or they cannot put on or remove a face covering without help.
