The steady upward trend in new cases of COVID-19 in East Elgin continues with Southwestern Public Health reporting nine new cases today (Saturday) and a pair of St. Thomas cases resolved. There are now 59 active cases in the region with seven new cases in Aylmer, two in Bayham and one in Tillsonburg.
As of today, there are 32 active cases in Aylmer, 12 in Bayham, two in St. Thomas and one in Central Elgin. Elsewhere in the health unit’s coverage area, there are 7 cases in Tillsonburg and 4 in Norwich. An additional case involves an individual who resides outside the province.
Dr. Joyce Lock, Southwestern Public Health medical officer of health said Thursday the spike in the number of confirmed cases in East Elgin comes from a variety of circumstances and not from any one particular source or faith-based community.
One case reported today involves a staff member at Terrace Lodge in Aylmer. Staff at the long-term care home are working with Southwestern Public Health on outbreak management and to identify who the staff member has been in contact with.
