On what would have been her step daughters 35th birthday, Mary Catherine Garrod began a 100 day journey of walking and cycling to raise funds to help send local kids to camp.
Garrod’s step daughter Ashley was tragically killed in a hit and run accident with her mother on September 11th in 2007, and with the anniversary approaching, it will also bring an end to Garrod’s fundraising journey.
Throughout her 100 day “A Step in Time” endeavor, Garrod has been raising funds for “Kids in Camp”, an organization that helps pay for children to attend summer camps throughout the province as Ashley loved her days as a camper and counselor at Camp Tanamakoon.
Garrod says Ashley’s love of camp was one of the driving forces for the fundraiser.
Garrod says the hope is that the fundraiser inspires other camp lovers to give back.
By the end of her 100 day journey, Garrod will have walked or cycled 1000 kms, which is roughly the distance its takes to drive there and back to Camp Tanamakoon.
