NOTE: The health unit advised this afternoon the use of the word ‘positive’ in the second paragraph was an error on their part. In fact the case is still classified as a probable.

Southwestern Public Health advised this afternoon a member of the St. Thomas Community Christian School community is a probable case of COVID-19.
Health unit staff have initiated a case investigation to identify the source of transmission and the individual’s close contacts. The broader school community has been informed of the positive case by the school principal and provided with instructions about next steps. Close contacts will be notified of their potential exposure by public health officials.
Dr. Joyce Lock, Medical Officer of Health for the region explains the meaning of a probable case.
School principal Jason Schouten advises, “Our commitment is to keeping the school community safe. We’re following public health recommendations, working closely with our public health school nurse and making sure everyone is well supported and well informed throughout this process.”
“School administrators and our public health team are working in partnership to ensure everyone is informed and knows what to do next so that the risk of the virus spreading further is minimized,” says Dr. Lock.
The health unit will not release the identity of the case or whether it is a student, or employee, to protect the privacy of the individual impacted.
