Parents, guardians and members of the Mitchell Hepburn Public School community have been advised by Southwestern Public Health of a positive COVID-19 case within the school.
Dr. Joyce Lock, medical officer of health, explains the definition of a school-related case.
At this time, SWPH is investigating the case and its close contacts. Close contacts of the individual will be contacted by the health unit and will be given support on how to navigate the situation.
The health unit has indicated there is no evidence the case resulted from contact at Mitchell Hepburn, which will remain open and school buses will operate.
“Thames Valley is following all of the health and safety protocols recommended by public health and the Ministry of Education,” said Thames Valley Education Director Mark Fisher. “Mitchell Hepburn remains a safe place to attend school.”
Those in the school community who have not received a phone call from SWPH have not been identified as a close contact and do not need to self isolate or get tested.
On Wednesday, the Province’s COVID-19 School Case Tracker confirmed that the individual who tested positive is in fact a student at Mitchell Hepburn.
