Southwestern Public Health this morning (Monday) is reporting a bump in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in its coverage area. There are now five cases, with three new cases in Oxford County. There are two new cases in Ingersoll and one in East Zorra-Tavistock in addition to the ongoing case in St. Thomas and another in Central Elgin.
Three of the cases are individuals under the age of 40 and all but one involve women. This is the largest one-day increase since Sept. 27.
The staff case at Caressant Care on Mary Bucke remains active.
Currently, none of the cases involve hospitalization and since the pandemic began, 91.6 per cent of cases in the health unit’s coverage area have not required hospitalization.
The number of resolved cases remains at 267.
In a release today, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer advised, “There have been 181,864 cases of COVID-19 in Canada, including 9,613 deaths. Over the past week, labs across Canada have tested an average of over 71,000 people daily, with 2.5% testing positive.”
