Saturday night fire destroys long time Elgin County business. Police say McBain Signs went up in flames Saturday night just before 11pm but according to ownership, effective smoke alarms may have saved their lives as the home is attached to the workshop. A call was placed to 911 and under 15 minutes later, two Central Elgin fire stations along with Malahide Fire arrived at the location on John Wise Line. Chris McDonough, Central Elgin fire chief says the bay area of the shop vented out right away making it easier to contain the fire from going towards the house. For 37 years, McBain Signs has been in business and since 1987 at its current location.
