The Aylmer Police Service are warning the public after they recently investigated a fraud situation involving a 73 year old female victim.
Police report that on November 4th, an investigation revealed that the victim was befriended by a male on Facebook who then convinced the female that he was in a war and wanted to send her all of his money.
The male alleged that before he could do so, she needed to transfer $5300.00 into an account that he set up. The female agreed, attended her bank and transferred the funds.
Later the same day, the male contacted her again and requested that she send him additional $9000.00 at which point the staff at the victim’s bank intervened and prevented further loss.
