myFM has learned GKN Sinter will be closing its St. Thomas plant some time in the near future. St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston says he found out about the closure earlier this afternoon (Thursday).
Preston says he was told the company was consolidating its operations. Approximately 150 employees will be impacted. Preston says he has been told few details on the closure.
In spite of the news, Preston says generally, St. Thomas is doing well from a manufacturing point of view, especially for auto parts manufacturers with positive news of late from GM and Ford.
