With the onset of the holiday season and the increase in online orders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the OPP would like to remind you to be wary of Porch Pirates.
Delivered boxes are just too tempting for thieves looking to pile the gifts under their own tree. Some tips to keep your packages safe include…
-Track your deliveries on-line so you know when they’re slated to arrive and plan to be home upon delivery.
-Opt for in-store or curb-side pickup wherever possible.
-Install video cameras and post signage to indicate surveillance is in effect.
-Request the package be left out of sight at a rear or side door.
-When placing your order, request a signature upon delivery, ship the package to a trusted neighbour or relative if you won’t be home or have the items delivered to your work. Be sure to clear it with your boss first.
Another option includes getting your packages delivered to an official drop off location. Locally you do so at Ross Street Coin Laundry Purolator Depot, says co-owner JP Miller.
JP adds that it is a great option for high valued items.
The OPP remind you that if you believe your packages have been stolen, to contact authorities and the shipping company.
