A local family that has had to learn first had about the dangers of COVID-19, are asking the community to think of their story when they make Christmas plans this year.
On November 29th, Lisa Geier Haalstra of Belmont posted on her Facebook page about how her husband Martin Haalstra was currently battling COVID-19.
In the post she details what her family had to go through once they found out about the diagnosis, and how within about a week, Martin went from having a sinus infection to being taken to hospital by ambulance where he was later intubated.
Due to complications as a result of COVID-19, the 44 year old husband and father of 3 tragically passed away later that night.
Those closest to him say Martin will always be remembered for his huge heart, generosity, hard working and out-spoken personality, infectious energy and his outrageous sense of humour.
A gofundme has been set up in his name to support his family.
