Ontario reported 1,848 new cases of COVID-19 today (Friday), while Southwestern Public Health is advising of 30 new cases, including three in St. Thomas and six each in Aylmer and Bayham and one in West Elgin. Sixteen cases were resolved.
There are 108 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 26 in St. Thomas, 18 in Aylmer, 14 in Woodstock, 13 in Norwich, 10 in Bayham, eight in Tillsonburg, four in Blandford-Blenheim, Zorra, East Zorra-Tavistock and Ingersoll, with single cases in Central Elgin, West Elgin and Southwold.
Currently three people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU.
One staff member at Terrace Lodge in Aylmer and a staff member at Bethany Care Home in Norwich have tested positive.
Seventy-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 30 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 593.
There are 51.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 62.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 501 tests on Wednesday.
