We’re expecting to find out more information about a potential province-wide lockdown this afternoon.
Premier Doug Ford will be speaking at 1 p.m. and is expected to outline the next step in the province’s plan to stop the spread of COVID-19.
According to several media reports, today’s announcement could include a shutdown for all regions of Ontario beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Christmas Eve.
The premier’s office has not confirmed the reports. Yesterday, 2316 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported, bringing the rolling seven-day average to 2249.
Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, and Dr. Naveed Mohammad, President and CEO, William Osler Health System, to make the announcement.
