Ontario reported 2,408 new cases of COVID-19 today (Wednesday), while Southwestern Public Health is advising of 47 new cases, including 12 in St. Thomas, nine in Aylmer, two in Bayham and one in Southwold. Twenty-five cases were resolved.
There are 182 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 37 in Aylmer, 30 in St. Thomas, 28 in Tillsonburg, 17 in Norwich, 15 in Woodstock, 14 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 12 in Blandford-Blenheim, eight in Bayham, seven in Ingersoll, four in Central Elgin, three in Southwold, West Elgin and Zorra and one in SW Oxford.
Currently three people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU.
Ten residents and eight staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 10 staff and four residents at People Care in Tavistock testing positive. Two staff members at Bethany Care Home in Norwich and Chartwell in Aylmer have tested positive, a staff member at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, three staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide and a resident at Elgin Manor in Southwold have also tested positive.
One hundred and thirteen of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 31 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 815.
There are 86.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 86.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 417 tests on Monday.
