Ontario reported 2,447 new cases of COVID-19 today (Thursday), while Southwestern Public Health is advising of 37 new cases, including nine in St. Thomas, eight in Aylmer and two in Central Elgin. Twenty-one cases were resolved.
There are 197 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 41 in Aylmer, 35 in St. Thomas and Tillsonburg, 18 in Woodstock, 14 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 13 in Norwich, 10 in Blandford-Blenheim, eight in Bayham, seven in Ingersoll, six in Central Elgin, three in Southwold, West Elgin and Zorra and one in SW Oxford.
Currently eight people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU.
Ten residents and eight staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 10 staff and four residents at People Care in Tavistock, two staff members at Bethany Care Home in Norwich and Chartwell in Aylmer, a staff member at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, three staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide and a resident at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
One hundred and twenty-eight of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 36 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 836.
There are 93.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 97.9 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 370 tests on Tuesday.
