Ontario reported 2,005 new cases of COVID-19 today (Sunday.) Over the three-day Christmas break, Southwestern Public Health is reporting 87 new cases. Twenty-three cases were resolved over that period. There have been 12 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began.
There are 261 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 54 in Aylmer, 51 in Tillsonburg, 48 in St. Thomas, 23 in Woodstock, 20 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 13 in Blandford-Blenheim, 12 in Bayham, 11 in Norwich, nine in Ingersoll, seven in Central Elgin, five in Southwold, four in Zorra, three in West Elgin and one in SW Oxford.
Currently eight people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU.
Twenty-five residents and 14 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 17 residents and 10 staff at People Care in Tavistock, two staff at Chartwell in Aylmer, a staff member at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, three staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide and a resident at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
One hundred and fifty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 40 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 859.
There are 123.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 101.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 417 tests on Wednesday.
