Ontario reported 3,328 new cases of COVID-19 today (Thursday), another one-day record. Southwestern Public Health, meantime, is reporting 71 new cases this morning with 38 cases resolved. There are 19 new cases in St. Thomas, 10 in Aylmer, three in Southwold, two in Central Elgin and one in West Elgin. One death was reported and there now have been 13 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began.
There are 295 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 67 in Tillsonburg, 58 in St. Thomas, 55 in Aylmer, 33 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 31 in Woodstock, 12 in Norwich, eight in Bayham and Southwold, five in Zorra, four in Central Elgin, Ingersoll and Blandford-Blenheim, three in West Elgin and SW Oxford.
Currently 19 people are hospitalized with six of those individuals in the ICU.
Thirty-one residents and 20 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 32 residents and 18 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff at Chartwell in Aylmer, two staff at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, five staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, three staff at Bethany Care Home in Norwich and two residents at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
One hundred and fifty-one of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 37 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 978.
There are 139.5 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 124.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 542.3 cases per 100,000 population and 3,350.2 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 265 tests on Tuesday.
