Ontario reported 3,945 new COVID-19 cases today with 61 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 46 new cases this morning, with 7 cases resolved. There are six new cases in Aylmer, three in Dutton-Dunwich and one each in St. Thomas and Central Elgin. No new deaths have been reported in the region.
There are 379 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 125 in Tillsonburg, 60 in St. Thomas, 42 in Woodstock, 38 in Aylmer, 26 in Norwich, 24 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 14 in Ingersoll, 11 in Bayham and Zorra, eight in Central Elgin, seven in SW Oxford, three each in Southwold, Dutton-Dunwich and West Elgin, and two each in Malahide and Blandford-Blenheim.
Currently 16 people are hospitalized with three of those individuals in the ICU.
Eighty residents and 44 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 35 residents and 32 staff at People Care in Tavistock, five staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and one staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, one staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Goodness Retirement Living in St. Thomas, one resident at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas and five staff and four residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich.
One hundred and eighty-five of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 41 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,325
There are 179.2 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 223.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 154.2 cases per 100,000 population and 507.2 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 232 tests on Thursday.
