Ontario reported 2,903 new COVID-19 cases today with 41 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 64 new cases this morning, with 79 cases resolved. Nine new cases are reported in St. Thomas, four in Aylmer, two in Central Elgin and one in West Elgin. Three new deaths have been reported, none in long-term care homes and that brings the death count in the region to 35 since the pandemic began.
There are 365 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 123 in Tillsonburg, 63 in St. Thomas, 37 in Aylmer and Woodstock, 35 in Norwich, 16 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 13 in Ingersoll, nine in Bayham and SW Oxford, seven in Central Elgin and Zorra, four in West Elgin, two in Southwold and one each in Dutton-Dunwich, Malahide and Blandford-Blenheim.
Currently 16 people are hospitalized with three of those individuals in the ICU.
Eighty residents and 48 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 39 residents and 32 staff at People Care in Tavistock, two staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff members at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, one staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Goodness Retirement Living in St. Thomas, one resident at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas and five staff and 12 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich.
One hundred and eighty-two of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 48 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,425.
There are 172.6 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 257.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 161.9 cases per 100,000 population and 493.9 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 174 tests on Sunday.
