Ontario reported 2,998 new COVID-19 cases today with 100 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 42 new cases this morning, with 26 cases resolved. No new deaths were reported. The seven day rolling average of new cases in the region is now 38 per day.
There were four new cases in St. Thomas and Bayham, three in Aylmer, two in Central Elgin and one each in Southwold and West Elgin.
There are 385 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 111 in Tillsonburg, 75 in St. Thomas, 46 in Woodstock, 39 in Norwich, 38 in Aylmer, 17 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 15 in Ingersoll, 11 in Bayham, eight in SW Oxford, seven in Zorra, six in Central Elgin and Southwold, four in West Elgin and one each in Dutton-Dunwich and Malahide.
Currently 12 people are hospitalized with four of those individuals in the ICU.
Eighty residents and 49 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 40 residents and 37 staff at People Care in Tavistock, two staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff members at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two staff members at Extendicare in Port Stanley , two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas and five staff and 12 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich.
One hundred and eighty-seven of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 47 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,538.
There are 182 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 274.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 192.8 cases per 100,000 population and 507.2 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 189 tests on Wednesday.
