Ontario reported 1,563 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 88 deaths, while Southwestern Public Health is reporting just 11 new cases, with 17 cases resolved.
Two new deaths have been recorded bringing the total to 61 since the pandemic began. Four new cases were reported in St. Thomas and one each in Aylmer and Central Elgin.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region drops to 10 per day.
There are 134 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 61 in Woodstock, 16 in Norwich, 15 in St. Thomas, 11 in Ingersoll, nine in Tillsonburg, five in Aylmer, three each in Dutton-Dunwich, East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra, two in West Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim, and one each in Bayham, Central Elgin, Malahide and SW Oxford.
Currently eight people are hospitalized with one of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 38.1 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 38 staff at People Care in Tavistock, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, 1 staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg and Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 40 residents and 11 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 10 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,141.
There are 63.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 345.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 38.6 cases per 100,000 population and 66.7 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 203 tests on Tuesday.
