Ontario reported 1,670 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 45 deaths. Meantime, Southwestern Public Health is reporting 21 new cases, with 32 cases resolved. It’s the first daily case count over 20 in more than a week. No new deaths have been recorded. One new case was reported in St. Thomas with the remainder in Oxford county.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region increased to 12 per day.
There are 123 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 73 in Woodstock, 14 in St. Thomas, 10 in Ingersoll, 6 in Norwich, three each in Tillsonburg, East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra, two in Aylmer, Dutton-Dunwich, West Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim, and one each in Bayham, Central Elgin and Malahide.
Currently four people are hospitalized, none in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 38.1 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 38 staff at People Care in Tavistock, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, 1 staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg and Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 49 residents and 16 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those eight are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,173.
There are 63.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 345.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 36.0 cases per 100,000 population and 26.7 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 205 tests on Wednesday.
