Ontario reported 981 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 42 deaths. Meantime, Southwestern Public Health is reporting nine new cases. A total of seven cases were resolved.
No new deaths were recorded and the toll remains at 64 since the pandemic began.
There are 93 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 50 in Woodstock, 15 in Tillsonburg, eight in St. Thomas, seven in Ingersoll, four in Norwich, three in Dutton-Dunwich, two in Zorra and one each in Aylmer, Malahide, West Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim.
There are no hospitalizations. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 35.5 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
A total of 47 residents and 38 staff have tested positive at People Care in Tavistock, 1 staff member at Valleyview Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 53 residents and 23 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty-five of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 18 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,276.
There are 44.0 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 41.0 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 20.6 cases per 100,000 population and 13.3 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 179 tests on Thursday.
