Frank Gratton says his trip to St. Thomas this morning is a hopeful first step in a return to some semblance of normal. A member of the Indigenous community in Rodney, Gratton was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at Memorial Arena.
Gratton firmly believes getting vaccinated will help us all get back to our normal routine that much sooner.
Jaime Fletcher, the health unit’s program manager leading the COVID-19 Immunization Task Force observed, “There were certainly tears from our community members who came in to be vaccinated today.”
And, tears from the health unit team, added Fletcher.
More than 2,000 vaccinations will be given this week at the St. Thomas and Woodstock clinics, with another 5,000 planned for the week of March 22.
An additional batch of appointments will be released weekly on Mondays based on vaccine inventory that arrives to the two Southwestern Public Health vaccination clinics.
It is expected a new block of appointments will be released next Monday at 8 a.m. for the following week.
