The city’s revamped transit system launched this morning under the Railway City Transit banner. Changes include longer hours including evening and Sunday service, routes alterations, increased service on Talbot Street, upgrades to the two transit hubs and demand responsive transit during expanded hours. And, free rides for the next month. Seating capacity will no longer be restricted, explains Justin Lawrence, the city’s director of engineering.
Frank Marsh, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1415 says he is disappointed with the city’s decision to operate buses with the potential for full capacity beginning today. Marsh advises the city is putting drivers in harm’s way and the traveling public at risk. He calls the city’s decision “a plan of destruction.”
Marsh adds, “Please explain how your campaign to improve transit will succeed by exposing all to COVID-19 and the variants.”
Marsh urges the city to “do the right thing and reconsider your thoughtless decision.”
