The province is reporting 2,336 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 14 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 12 new cases. Twenty cases were resolved. There were two new cases in St. Thomas, Central Elgin and Aylmer and a single case in Malahide.
Sixty-eight of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 13 cases still active.
The death toll is 69 since the pandemic began.
There are 84 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 23 in St. Thomas, 17 in Woodstock, nine in Central Elgin and Ingersoll, five in Tillsonburg, four in Malahide, three in Aylmer, Dutton-Dunwich, Blandford Blenheim and SW Oxford, two in East Zorra-Tavistock and one each in Bayham, West Elgin and Norwich.
One individual is hospitalized, not in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.1 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Fifty-one of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 15 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,656.
Through March 20 – the latest data available from the health unit – 6,409 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 4,497 of those having received their first dose.
There are 39.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 85.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 59.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 40.0 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 132 tests on Monday.
