Pressure continues to mount on Premier Doug Ford to implement paid sick days during the pandemic.
Municipal leaders, medical experts and labour unions are calling for the measures for Ontario workers.
Patty Coates is the President of the Ontario Federation of Labour.
The OFL wants the province to take “. . . immediate action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by providing at least seven paid sick days and 10 days of job-protected, paid emergency leave for all workers.”
Coates spoke with myFM.
Coates says some workers have been intimidated into continuing to work even though they have tested positive but have no symptoms.
She adds not only are paid sick days not available, but in some cases other alarming incidents have been reported in the workplace.
Coates stresses it all comes down to worker protection.
She says Ford is continually recommending “…workers stay home when they are sick, while still refusing to provide protections for paid sick days.”
