Over the Easter long weekend, the OPP conducted its seat belt campaign in which close to 8,000 traffic stops were made. In that time, the OPP responded to three road fatalities and one off-road vehicle death.
Lack of seat belt use was reported in all three road fatalities, while losing control was the primary cause in the off-road vehicle death. In total, about 1,500 seat belt charges were laid.
Locally, across the OPP’s West Region 218 seat belt charges were laid with 10 of those in Elgin county.
