The province is reporting 4,812 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 25 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 30 new cases. Twelve cases were resolved.
There are nine new cases in St. Thomas, two in Bayham and one in Central Elgin.
The death toll remains at 72 since the pandemic began.
Two hundred and forty-three of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 97 cases still active.
There are 198 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 74 in St. Thomas, 46 in Woodstock, 14 in Blandford-Blenheim, 13 in Tillsonburg, six in Aylmer, Bayham, Central Elgin, Dutton-Dunwich, East Zorra-Tavistock and Norwich, five in Ingersoll and Zorra, three in Malahide, and one in Southwold and SW Oxford.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive as have two staff at Metcalfe Gardens in St. Thomas.
Eight individuals are hospitalized, two of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 33.6 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and twenty-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 49 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,870.
Through April 3 – the latest data available from the health unit – 23,554 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 21,537 of those having received their first dose.
There are 93.6 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 240.0 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 190.2 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 80.1 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 406 tests on Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 32 on Wednesday.
