The province is reporting 3,682 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 40 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 26 new cases. Forty-five cases were resolved. There was one new death, an Oxford man in his 60s, which brings the death toll to 75 since the pandemic began.
There are two new cases in St. Thomas and West Elgin and one each in Bayham and Dutton-Dunwich.
Three hundred and sixteen of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 69 cases still active.
There are 168 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 54 in St. Thomas, 40 in Woodstock, 27 in Tillsonburg, eight in Ingersoll and Norwich, five in Aylmer, Bayham and Zorra, four in Blandford-Blenheim and Dutton-Dunwich, two in Central Elgin, West Elgin and East Zorra-Tavistock and one each in Malahide and SW Oxford.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive.
Five individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.5 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and twenty-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 44 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,020.
Through April 3 – the latest data available from the health unit – 23,554 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 21,537 of those having received their first dose.
There are 79.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 211.8 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 138.8 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 66.7 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 249 tests on Tuesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 36 on Monday.
