With admissions to ICUs across the province topping the 800 mark, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is now caring for individuals transferred from overwhelmed facilities in the GTA.
A total of eight patients have been transported here to date, with four more expected this week.
However, hospital president and CEO Robert Biron stresses this does not jeopardize emergency care for St. Thomas and Elgin residents.
Biron says patients began transferring to the St. Thomas ICU about a week ago.
He says the number of transfers is based on capacity in St. Thomas.
