The province is reporting 3,480 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 24 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 13 new cases. Twenty-two cases were resolved.
There are two new cases in Central Elgin and one each in Aylmer, Southwold and Dutton-Dunwich.
The death toll sits at 76 since the pandemic began.
Three hundred and seventy of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 36 cases still active.
There are 141 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 44 in Woodstock, 30 in St. Thomas, 17 in Tillsonburg, 12 in Ingersoll, seven in Aylmer and Dutton-Dunwich, four in Bayham, Central Elgin and Zorra, three in Blandford-Blenheim, Norwich and SW Oxford, two in West Elgin and one in Southwold.
There are no active cases in long-term care or retirement homes.
Ten individuals are hospitalized, two of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.2 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and five of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 31 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,156.
Through April 17 – the latest data available from the health unit – 32,229 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 30,158 of those having received their first dose.
There are 66.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 174.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 77.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 93.4 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 224 tests on Monday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 41 last Wednesday.
