The province is reporting 3,887 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 21 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 14 new cases with 17 resolved.
There are three new cases in St. Thomas and Aylmer with one in Dutton-Dunwich.
The death toll sits at 76 since the pandemic began.
Three hundred and eighty-seven of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 41 cases still active.
There are 138 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 40 in Woodstock, 28 in St. Thomas, 22 in Tillsonburg, 11 in Aylmer, nine in Ingersoll, seven in Dutton-Dunwich, five in Central Elgin, four in Blandford-Blenheim, three in Bayham, Norwich and SW Oxford, and one each in Southwold, West Elgin and Zorra.
One resident and one staff member have tested positive at Caressant Care in Woodstock.
Ten individuals are hospitalized, two of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 33.8 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 26 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,192.
Through April 17 – the latest data available from the health unit – 43,175 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 41,048 of those having received their first dose.
There are 65.2 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 187.8 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 72.0 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 146.8 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 70 tests on Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 21 Wednesday.
