The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near West Lorne were closed for much of the evening Monday, following a 2 vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer.
Elgin OPP say that around 4 p.m., a road painting vehicle was travelling eastbound and was being followed by a protection vehicle that was struck from behind by an eastbound tractor trailer.
The driver of the protection vehicle was not injured in the collision, however the driver of the tractor trailer was airlifted to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
A small post collision fire that spread to the grass was quickly extinguished by fire crews and lanes were reopened to motorists around 8:45 p.m.
Police do continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
