The UV Index for today is 11 or extreme. As a result, a Special Weather Statement has been put in effect due to the hot and humid conditions expected today.
According to Environment Canada, having a UV index of 12 is rare even in southern Ontario where we tend to see the strongest sun rays.
They say when UV rays are this strong, people should take full precautions.
Unprotected skin will be damaged and can burn in minutes.
You should be avoiding the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and also cover-up, wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Maximum temperatures near 31 degrees Celsius are expected today followed by an overnight minimum temperature near 20 degrees Celsius, providing little relief from the heat.
It is expected to feel like 33 with the humidex today with a high of 27 and a humidex of 31 for Wednesday.
