City council may have approved canoeing and fishing on Lake Margaret, however it does come with an important condition. Because the fish population is mainly bass, no fishing is permitted until the end of June in accordance with the Ontario bass fishing season. Adrienne Jefferson the city’s supervisor of parks and forestry explains.
Jefferson added staff will work with the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority to develop a plan on fish habitat creation and reach out to Matt McTaggart from Steelhead Food Company to discuss stocking of the lake.
In addition there will be a pair of designated boat launch areas, as she outlines.
She advised the city has reached out to police and EMS “to ensure emergency procedures are in place.”
Coun. Gary Clarke noted at the May 17 council meeting, “These are great rules to put in place so that we can mitigate the influence that could happen to the neighbours there. I think what you have put in place is fair and allows people access to the lake but also respects the neighbourhood.”
