Premier Doug Ford will also be making his way to London later today to attend a vigil for the victims of Sunday’s deadly vehicle attack.
Police have said the attack that killed four and sent a nine-year-old boy to hospital was deliberate, and the family was targeted for its Muslim faith.
While speaking to the public this afternoon about the horrific and deliberate attack on the Muslim family, Ford didn’t sugarcoat the obvious.
Ford says the province is working with local health officials to temporarily amend COVID-19 restrictions to allow the community to safely grieve at tonight’s event.
He says government events are cancelled for today to give the family and community time to mourn.
Meantime, some details are emerging about the members of the family.
Relatives have identified the victims as 46-year-old Salman Afzaal, his 44-year-old wife Madiha Salman, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Salman and her 74-year-old grandmother.
A fundraising web page describes the father as a physiotherapist and cricket enthusiast and says his wife was working on her PhD in civil engineering at Western University.
It also says their daughter was finishing Grade 9 and her grandmother was a “pillar” of the family,
Two online fundraisers for the nine-year-old boy who survived have taken in more than one-million dollars.
