A young St. Thomas girl is remembering Canadian icon Terry Fox by suggesting Terry as a symbolic name for one of 14 Hanoverian foals bred this year for the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride.
Six-year-old Molly Payne was one of 14 winners chosen from nearly 3,300 entries across Canada. The Grade 1 St. Anne’s student explains why she chose the name Terry.
A fitting tribute to the Canadian icon who died 40 years ago.
For her efforts, Molly has won some nifty prizes.
Molly adds she really likes horses and music and so who knows, maybe one day we’ll see Molly Payne participating in the RCMP Musical Ride.
The RCMP has been breeding its own horses for over 80 years. In addition to being one of the largest licensed Hanoverian breeders in the country, the breeding program is internationally recognized for producing some of the finest Hanoverian horses in Canada.
Among the winning names is another tribute to a famous Canadians. Trebek gets his name from long-time Jeopardy! host and proud Canadian Alex Trebek, who passed away in November 2020.
