Ontario’s top doctor says people shouldn’t hesitate to take a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine if they got Pfizer for their first shot.
Dr. David Williams says it’s better to be fully protected against the virus sooner than later.
He says it’s safe to mix the two shots and better to do so than wait for a matching set, as people with one dose are less protected against the Delta virus variant.
A shipment of Pfizer vaccines was delayed this week and the province is expecting a far greater supply of Moderna this month as second doses ramp up.
The Southwestern Public Health Unit has announced that their current supply of Pfizer will be used to vaccinate those 12-17 years of age at their mass immunization clinics, and will be utilizing the large shipment of Moderna for all other appointments this week.
