The province is reporting 256 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths this morning while Southwestern Public Health is again reporting two new cases with six resolved. There was one new case in Central Elgin.
The death total is 83 since the pandemic began.
There are 25 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 10 in Woodstock, seven in St. Thomas, three in East Zorra-Tavistock, two in Central Elgin and Tillsonburg and one in Norwich.
A total of 794 cases have been variants of concern with five confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There are two individuals in hospital at this time, none in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 33.8 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Twenty of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those six are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,763.
The health unit advises 130,989 individuals in the health unit’s coverage area have had at least one dose of vaccine by SWPH or 61.5 per cent of residents.
There are 11.8 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 10.8 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 18.0 cases per 100,000 population and there are no cases in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 58 tests on Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did eight on Wednesday.
