UPDATE- The Special Weather Statement has been updated to a Heat Warning for St. Thomas and Elgin County due to the very warm and humid conditions expected today.
Afternoon temperatures near 31 degrees and humidex values near 40 are expected today and Tuesday. An overnight low near 20 degrees is forecast tonight, providing little relief from the heat.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category.
Extreme heat affects everyone.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
You are reminded to take advantage of cooling centre’s in the city and county in extreme heat.
