While official Canada Day celebrations were restricted to virtual last year in St. Thomas, this year residents are encouraged to celebrate in their own fashion.
That’s the message from Mayor Joe Preston as we prepare for our second July 1st during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Preston notes muted recognition is more appropriate due to ongoing COVID restrictions combined with calls from Indigenous leaders to spend time reflecting this Canada Day.
The city is also researching an appropriate land acknowledgement statement which will be read to open council meetings at city hall.
