A fire Friday evening heavily damaged a duplex with an upper floor apartment in Straffordville. Bayham firefighters were called out to 56284 Heritage Line around 7:30 p.m. where they found flames shooting out of a garage.
It took five hours for approximately 40 firefighters to completely extinguish the blaze. Both the Straffordville and Port Burwell Stations of the Municipality of Bayham Fire and Emergency Services, along with tankers from Tillsonburg Fire, Norfolk County Fire – Courtland Station, Malahide Fire – Station 5 and the aerial from Aylmer Fire responded to the fire.
The cause is not deemed suspicious, however it is under investigation. The damage, estimated at $700,000, was extensive to the structure and the occupant’s contents. There were no injuries.
