A second ambulance had to come to the rescue Friday afternoon in Aylmer, when Elgin County EMS were involved in a collision while on the way to hospital with a patient.
Aylmer Police say an investigation determined that EMS were transporting a patient to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital travelling west on Talbot Street West, with lights and sirens activated, when 16 year old male from Aylmer was exiting the McDonald’s drive through and pulled out into the path of the ambulance.
The paramedic operating the ambulance attempted to avoid the collision, however the ambulance and the vehicle collided.
The collision forced the Ambulance off the roadway and onto the north sidewalk where it collided with a No Parking Sign prior to coming to a stop.
The patient onboard the ambulance was transferred to a second ambulance to proceed to STEGH.
Police report that the matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
